System Engineer/Architect (Infrastructure)

1/14 - This is a 4-6 month contract, with possibility of extension, they are saying they would like someone who is open to going perm, because that is also a possibility. I am setting up a call with the manager to get more details, but this should be good to start.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities
• Accountable to plan, engineer, design, implement and manage infrastructure and responsible for oversight of configuration, maintenance and capacity planning for technologies in scope.
•Accountable to plan, engineer and implement data center consolidation effort
• Accountable to execute project engineering and solution processes & functions for technologies in scope. Responsible for service and project delivery.
• Accountable to implement & execute the enterprise architecture, solution engineering, standards & strategy and for its operational usage across the organization for technologies in scope as defined by the architects
• Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with strategic partners from within client's IT Systems Management, Architecture & Planning, Business Partner Manager, Project Management, Business Application Management, IT Security Management, IT Vendor Management, Nuveen business units as well as all external outsourced IT infrastructure service providers..
• Participate in the execution of standards used by client's business applications for the technologies in scope.
• Participate in the execution of technology lifecycle & roadmap for the technologies in scope, including technology absorption & risk, technology refresh, migration & retirement strategies.
• Execute capacity planning, monitoring, operations and infrastructure management processes for technologies in scope.
• Monitor, report and present key infrastructure performance metrics for technologies in scope to IT leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Skill/Experience Requirements
•At least 5 - 10 years experience in selecting, design engineering, solution engineering, project engineering, integrating and implementing infrastructure technologies & services, data center consolidation and related technologies comparable to Nuveen in size and complexity.
• Demonstrated skills in developing a technology plan including technical approach as well as the related business case for the use of that technology.
• Strong background and understanding of the technical direction and the prevailing standards for technologies in scope including data center consolidation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to build consensus and to present complex presentations to large audiences. Ability to explain complex technical detail and tradeoffs to non-technical associates.

• 5+ years of Windows 2000/2003 Server and Network administration
• 5+ years of HP Proliant DL Server hardware configuration and maintenance
• 3+ years of Microsoft IIS technologies including Windows OS, messaging and Windows networking
• 3+ years of Cisco Switch and Router configuration and management
• 3+ years of DNS, DHCP and Active Directory technologies
• 3+ years of Citrix administration and implementation
• 2+ years of experience with Microsoft or VMWare technologies
• 2+ years of experience with Telecommunications technologies

• Bachelors degree in related field required, Masters preferred (MS in related field).

Job-Specific Technical Competencies

• Deep & broad knowledge of full range of client, server and distributed computing hardware and systems management, application infrastructure, data center consolidation and related operating system & supporting technologies, design standards and options.
• Deep Technical knowledge in Citrix, EMC Storage, SQL database, Oracle, Cisco devices, Firewall, F5 (BigIP) Load Balancing, Active Directory, core Microsoft technologies and Avaya.
• Possesses strong knowledge of vendor community for full range of infrastructure technologies including but not limited to client, server, database, network and operating systems.

Technologies in Scope (minimum representative not exhaustive)

Servers
HP Server Hardware, Risc/AMD/Intel Chipset technologies, Server based platform integration, sizing, and performance modeling tools.

Storage
Storage provisioning, Disaster Recovery and SAN Fabric management. This includes EMC Symmetrix/Clariion. EMC data replication strategies, SAS and SATA Directed attached storage systems.

Software
Microsoft Windows Server Editions, Linux/HPUX Operating Systems, Windows XP, Microsoft Cluster Technologies, Microsoft Active Directory, Virtualization tools and technologies to include VMWare and Microsoft, Enterprise backup technologies to include VERITAS Netbackup, Performance and Benchmarking tools, System Monitoring and Administration across the HP server platforms, IBM-Tivoli Workload Scheduler, BMC Patrol and Microsoft Exchange.

Network Services
Knowledge & understanding of architecture, design, operations support & troubleshooting (DNS, WINS, DHCP, IP addressing, LDAP authentication), Cisco and Checkpoint firewalls, encryption and security technologies, load balancers, switches, routers, secure remote access.

Expert knowledge using Microsoft office professional and Visio tools

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree required Master’s preferred (MS in related field). 5 - 10 years of relevant engineering and technology administration experience required.

INTERPERSONAL/COMMUNICATION/LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills that allow for managing technology consultants, and service providers that do not report directly to this position. Must have the ability to interact with the senior leadership team. Must have the ability to develop and present IT engineering designs, implementation plans & operational performance metrics.

MATHEMATICAL/ANALYTICAL/REASONING SKILLS
Strong analytical & problem solving skills required along with a strong process background.
